AUSTIN, Texas — Facebook Inc. is planning to expand even further in Central Texas, according to a report from the Austin Business Journal.
Multiple sources told the Austin Business Journal that Facebook is in the market for 1 million square feet, on top of the numerous offices the company already has in Austin.
Because there is not currently an office tower that could accommodate that request in Downtown Austin, sources told the Austin Business Journal that Facebook is seeking to split the space between two towers in development: 6 X Guadalupe and Indeed Tower.
Officials with the leasing agencies for the two towers declined to comment for the Austin Business Journal's report. A Facebook spokesperson also did not return the Austin Business Journal's request for comment.
A longtime real estate expert told the Austin Business Journal that if Facebook did make this expansion in Downtown Austin, the company would become the largest downtown tenant. As of right now, Facebook and Google "are essentially neck-and-neck as the dominant downtown office eaters," according to the Austin Business Journal.
In September 2019, Facebook opened its office on West Third Street. The company also has an office space on West Sixth Street and, according to the Austin Business Journal, Facebook has also been building an office at Domain Northside in North Austin, in addition to other offices the company already has in The Domain and at the Parmer office park in northeast Austin.
